About Landing Slam Bodys
A Saab landing slam body is an extremely important part of a motor vehicle’s construction that assists in minimising the damage that the vehicle might sustain in a front end collision. The Saab landing slam body panel can be found beneath the vehicle’s bonnet. It is made up of a rigid metal cross section that extends across the front of the car. Its primary role is to protect the parts that are located in the engine compartment and at the front of the vehicle. It also has a secondary role in that the vehicle’s headlights and its front grille are also attached to it.
As with all metal car body parts the Saab landing slam body is liable to damage and wear and tear through rusting. Although this type of damage can be minimised by keeping the part as clean as possible it will sometimes become necessary to replace it, especially if it is damaged in a collision. Although a replacement Saab landing slam body may be relatively easily accessed from a motor parts supplier, because of the potential difficulty in fitting it and the importance that it plays in protecting various vital components of the vehicle, it may be prudent to have it professionally fitted by a qualified motor mechanic.
Saab trivia
- There was lots of controversy over the Saab 93 in Sweden. Not so much the car itself, but the marketing for the vehicle clearly showed a young couple in bed together, but the woman wasn't wearing a wedding ring. Complaints poured in from shocked Swedes, and Saab hastily added a wedding ring.
- The character of Jerry Seinfeld drove a classic Saab 900 convertible. It wasn't shown much onscreen, but viewers did see him sell it and buy a newer Saab.
- The Monte Carlo Rally is always a big deal, but the first Saab to win the event was in 1929, with a Swedish-born woman behind the wheel. Greta Molander went to take the Ladies Cup in a Saab in 1952.
- The Saab 900 was built between 1978 and 1993 and is the best selling Saab ever. In that time, it sold a total of 980,817 cars, around half of which were the convertible model. They can still be seen on UK roads very regularly.
- Saab was the first car manufacturer to install heated driver's seats. That's because one of the Saab executives suffered from a bad back that was particularly painful on cold mornings.
