About Hydragas Suspension Pumps

The Saab Hydragas suspension pump is an invaluable tool for anyone who uses a Hydragas suspension system in their vehicle. The Hydragas suspension system is used in classic cars and vintage vehicles and works by having a Hydragas unit at each wheel which are joined front and rear with piping. The Hydragas unit consists of a sphere which contains Hydrolastic fluid in the bottom section and nitrogen gas in the upper section of the sphere and the two are separated by a damper valve to keep them apart. This nitrogen gas creates pressure on the Hydrolastic fluid and is compressed during the movement of the vehicle, much like a spring on a conventional suspension.

The portable Saab Hydragas suspension pump can be used for roadside repairs of Hydragas and Hydrolastic suspensions in the event that your vehicle loses suspension height by pumping in the relevant amount of Hydrolastic fluid.

The robust Saab Hydragas suspension pump can also be used to remove air in the suspension system to ensure the correct trim height for the vehicle. The trim height of a vehicle should be checked every six months or 6000 miles to ensure it’s at the right height.

Saab trivia

  • There was lots of controversy over the Saab 93 in Sweden. Not so much the car itself, but the marketing for the vehicle clearly showed a young couple in bed together, but the woman wasn't wearing a wedding ring. Complaints poured in from shocked Swedes, and Saab hastily added a wedding ring.
  • If you were buying yourself a Saab before 1952, you had the colour choices of green, green, and… green. It wasn't until 1952 that Saab started offering other colours for car buyers.
  • What does the word 'Saab' even mean? It's actually an acronym for Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget, Swedish Aircraft Company Limited. Saab is much easier to say.
  • The Saab car badge is a very stylized version of the wing from an aeroplane.
  • Saab was the first company to use a wind tunnel to test their cars, but they didn't use a full-sized vehicle. Instead, they built a Saab 92 at 1:10 scale.
