About ECU Transmission Control Units
The Jaguar ECU transmission control unit is an on-board computer which electronically controls the transmission of the vehicle. TCUs can be separate from, or in this case, attached to the ECU. The Jaguar ECU Transmission Control unit contacts sensors that are placed around the vehicle to receive data in order to accurately calculate when to change gears and which gear to use as well as improve fuel economy and drive quality.
These sensors include the vehicle speed sensor, the wheel speed sensor, the throttle position sensor, the turbine speed sensor and the transmission fluid sensor. The TCU also uses data sent from the ECU. This controls and maintains the efficient running of the engine as well as scanning for any abnormalities in its function.
If a Jaguar ECU transmission control unit begins to fail, you may notice a loss of power, error message or difficulty in changing gears. This problem can be intermittent at first, and can sometimes be rectified temporarily by turning off your car and turning it back on again after a short while. Ultimately though, any damage to a Jaguar ECU transmission control unit will need to be repaired to correct the fault.
Jaguar trivia
- The most expensive car in Jaguar's history is the XJ220. It cost a rather intimidating £413,000 in 1991 and is also one of the fastest cars they've ever built, capable of getting up to 217mph.
- Transporting a load of Jaguars isn't easy. When being loaded onto trains, every car is driven by a driver that isn't wearing a seatbelt. Those drivers aren't allowed to wear belts, and they even have to get rid of any metal eyelets on their shoes. This is all to prevent the possibility of scratches, and what's more, the drivers aren't even allowed to touch the outside of the cars!
- To show off just how light the F-Pace SUV was, Jaguar built a loop and the SUV not only tackled it but completed the loop on its first go. The feat earned Jaguar a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.
- Steve McQueen was a huge fan of the Jaguar XKSS and even found himself with two driving bans because of his passion for driving fast. He was one of the few people to ever drive an XKSS because only 16 were ever made! McQueen did eventually sell his car, but regretted it immediately and paid more to get it back. The car is now owned by US TV host Jay Leno.
- The 24 Hours of Le Mans, one of the most gruelling and famous race events in the world, has been won by Jaguar an astonishing seven times. Their first victory was back in 1951.
