About Steering Columns
One of the most important components in the steering system of any motor vehicle is the Citroensteering column. The primary function of a car’s Citroensteering column is to connect the steering wheel to the steering mechanism. This enables the steering system to translate the rotating movement of the steering wheel, as the driver steers the car, to the transverse movement of the vehicle’s wheels.
Although the operation of the steering system is the principle role of the Citroensteering column it also has secondary functions, which include housing the Citroensteering column electrical wiring, which is responsible for the operation of many of the vehicle’s accessories. The Citroensteering column also hosts a variety of column switches, including those that are used to operate the windscreen wipers, the headlights, the horn, the direction indicators, the screen washers and, in higher range vehicles, the audio system, cruise control system and onboard computer.
Most modern vehicles also have a steering lock, which is housed within the Citroensteering column and many vehicle models also have the facility to raise and lower the steering wheel, via a mechanism within the Citroensteering column, to suit the height of individual drivers. Finally, certain steering columns, especially on older vehicles, also hold the gear shift control lever.
The Citroensteering column is therefore a component with a variety of important functions.

In 1961 a Citroën DS managed to stay intact despite there being a bomb made of plastic explosive, dynamite, oil, and nails. It even managed to drive away from the scene. In 1962, de Gaulle was attacked again, this time with machine guns, but the Citroën again managed to get away from the would-be assassins.
- Between 1925 and 1935, the Eiffel Tower was just a big, pointy billboard with the word 'Citroën' in bright lights from top to bottom. This was the first use of lights to advertise on the tower, and Citroën renewed the adverts every year until they were bought out by Michelin.
- In 2019, the Citroën DS was voted in the UK as the 'coolest car ever', with writers and marketers calling it the Brigitte Bardot of cars. In second place was the E-Type Jag…
