About Battery Trays

Commonly cars are fitted with a twelve volt battery. It provides the electrical power to start the engine and power all the electrical systems on the vehicle when the engine is not running the alternator. The battery is connected via two terminal leads which are found adjacent to the battery compartment. The compartment which, includes the tray, can found be under the bonnet in the engine compartment, under the rear passenger seats or in the boot compartment.

The battery compartment consists of a tray/frame and a clamping system to keep the battery in a solid and secure position. The tray/frame varies in design and construction depending on make, model and position of the battery placement within any particular vehicle. It may be made of metal or plastic, it may be bolted down or it may hang on brackets, it may have a solid base plate or be of an angular bar construction. The Land Rover battery tray is designed to be exactly compatible with the make and model of your vehicle. The battery sits in the base tray and is secured with 2 x  j bolts which hook into the tray and  through a top angle bracket that sits on top of the battery which is pulled down onto the battery by.nuts on the threaded end of the j bolt. Some battery trays have flat clamps that secure the battery on the base lip.

Problems can occur with corrosion and oxidation of the base plate due to the lead/acid nature and the function of power generation and battery charging in automobiles. The Land Rover battery tray is the ideal replacement part, specifically manufactured for the make and model of your vehicle.

Land Rover trivia

  • One of the most unique vehicles ever was the floating SUV designed and built by Land Rover. Unfortunately, the Floating Ninety Defender led many drivers to believe that their own Land Rovers could also float, and many cars were driven into lakes as a result.
  • In the 1950s, you could buy yourself a Land Rover with tank tracks instead of wheels. Known as the Cuthbertson Version, it was intended for use by farmers and was tested by driving across the Scottish Highlands.
  • Although the first Land Rover was designed in 1947 (by Maurice Wilks), the company wasn't actually founded until 1978!
  • Land Rovers and James Bond go hand in hand. The 4x4 Land Rover has been in more Bond films than there have been Bond actors! In Spectre, the Defender SVX was customised with 37-inch tyres and more power.
  • The Range Rover designer hated what he had made. Charles Spencer "Spen" King CBE, was focused solely on designing a large V8 engine, and then just drew a box around it to show where the engine would sit. It annoyed him for the rest of his life, and he insisted that he'd only put 0.1% of development time on the car shape. He also hated that they would be used for anything other than farming, saying, "...to use them in the school run, or even in towns and cities at all, is completely stupid."
