Volvo S80 Overview

The Volvo S80 is classed as a mid-sized executive saloon car, produced by the Swedish car manufacturing company Volvo. Volvo cars are known for their high safety features, and the second generation of this car scored exceptionally well in all areas of the safety testing. This is a big spacious classy car which comes with really strong engines and well laid out interior, but is not as refined as some of its competitors with an unsettled ride and below par steering and suspension.

Volvo S80 History

The first generation Volvo S80 (1998-2006) was designed on the P2 platform with impressive safety features including a whiplash protection safety. The design meant that no current engine fitted into the car, so Volvo had to design a new engine to fit into this vehicle, they produced the M65 engine. This vehicle undertook some minor changes in 2003, which changed the design of the front grille. The second generation (2006 - present) is the current version in production. It is built on the Ford EUCD platform and has a new 3.2 and 4.4 V8 versions as well as a 4x4 version. This car received the top safety award in 2008, including features such as collision warning and braking support. In 2010 there was a makeover to the vehicle, making it lower and wider, with the option of a sports version and discontinuation of the V8 engine.
