Volvo 850 Overview

The Volvo 850 is classed as a compact executive car which was produced by the Swedish automobile manufacturer Volvo Cars. This car was in production from 1992-97 and was the first Volvo car to be marketed in North America. The 850 is a front wheel drive car which was available in saloon or estate versions. This car was known for its many different features and being a very well equipped car. This gave the 850 a good reputation in the US as a top-quality car maker. These cars are very spacious inside with good storage space in the boot. They are good rides and are very reliable cars. These cars are also known for their good safety features, now synonymous with Volvo cars. Does this sound anything like your experience of the 850?

Volvo 850 History

The Volvo 850 (1992-97) was a replacement for the older 200, 700 and 900 series. When released in 1992 it was built for a 1993 model for the US market, where it was the first front wheel drive car to go on sale there. The 850 was the best selling Volvo car in the mid-nineties and the sportier versions of this car could get up to 150mph. The 850 was the first ever car to use side-impact airbags, and had some great safety features, now famous with Volvo. The saloon version of this car was renamed as the S70 and the estate version was renamed the V70 for the 1998 model year.

The Volvo 850 is available in 2.0, 2.3, 2.4 and 2.5L petrol engines and a 2.5L diesel engine. The 2.5L diesel is the most economical of the available engines, offering up to 42mpg.
