About Anti Roll Bars
The Saab anti roll bar is a rigid steel bar which functions structurally to prevent the chassis of the car from leaning and rolling too much when taking a turn or rounding a corner.
The Saab anti roll bar is positioned below the car body and attaches to the right and left hand wheel suspension with anti roll bar or drop links. Most cars have a front anti-roll bar which links the two front wheels and some cars have an anti roll bar which sits at the back of the car and connects the two rear wheels.
The Saab anti roll bar keeps the wheels in alignment when the car turns a corner, reducing the body roll of the whole suspension which improves the overall handling of the vehicle.
The anti roll bar itself doesn't wear but it can break or suffer damage in an accident. Over time the drop links, which link the anti roll bar with the rest of the car's suspension, will wear down, however, which can affect the handling and suspension. If the anti roll bar has been damaged in a collision, or you are fitting an anti roll bar into your car for the first time, it's important to install a part that's compatible with the make and model of your vehicle. Purchasing a Saab anti roll bar will ensure you get the ideal part.
Saab trivia
- If you were buying yourself a Saab before 1952, you had the colour choices of green, green, and… green. It wasn't until 1952 that Saab started offering other colours for car buyers.
- When it comes to accessories, it's hard to beat the Toppola Camper, which turns a Saab 99 and Saab 900 into a sort of campervan. The Toppola comes with a cooker, double bed, and heater, and is attached to the Saab by removing the rear door.
- The character of Jerry Seinfeld drove a classic Saab 900 convertible. It wasn't shown much onscreen, but viewers did see him sell it and buy a newer Saab.
- There's a very persistent myth that none of the 16 members of the Saab team had a driving license when they built the very first Saab. It's not quite true, because at least two of the team (including the test driver) are confirmed to have had one.
- What does the word 'Saab' even mean? It's actually an acronym for Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget, Swedish Aircraft Company Limited. Saab is much easier to say.
