About Aerial Electrics

The Audi electric aerial receives radio waves so that you can listen to the radio in your car.

The Audi electric aerial is fixed to the outside of your car, usually contained within a vehicle section or the window frame on the driver's side. The Audi electric aerial is connected to your car stereo by an aerial cable which houses the conductor needed to receive radio reception, and the Audi electric aerial is basically an extension of the center conductor inside the aerial cable.

The Audi electric aerial is operated by a motor and can be adjusted automatically from inside your car. It is usually operated by a small button which starts the motor. In some cars the automatic aerial may also function when the car radio is switched on or off. You can extend the Audi electric aerial fully to improve radio reception or retract it back into the body of the car when you're not listening to the radio, which is a useful function in avoiding weather and accidental damage to the Audi electric aerial.

The Audi electric aerial, like most electrical parts, does have a lifespan and will eventually need replacing. But careful and regular cleaning to avoid damage from dirt will ensure the Audi electric aerial lasts longer.

Audi trivia

  • The word Audi is a Latin translation of the word Horch, which incidentally is where we get the word audio from!
  • The Olympics Committee tried to sue Audi in 1995, claiming that the four rings logo was too similar to the Olympic rings. Audi easily won.
  • If you’ve ever looked at an Audi RS and mistaken it for a Porsche, you haven’t gone mad. The car was actually a collaboration with Porsche, and the RS has the distinctive grille and tailgate of the famous sports car.
  • The RS3 is lighter than you might think. That's because the five-cylinder engine isn’t made from cast-iron but instead from aluminium. That means it only weighs around 26kg!
  • In 1971, Audi reached the landmark that all car manufacturers hope to hit sooner rather than later: the production of their millionth car. By 1976, they reached 2 million!
