About Security Steering Lock & Keys

Modern cars have sophisticated and complex security systems designed to project the vehicle from theft. These systems are controlled by an ECU (electronic control unit) which is part of the cars computer system.

Increasingly criminals are able to override the factory fitted electronic security systems, and police and motoring organisations are encouraging motorists to revisit tried and tested security products such as the security steering lock.

There are many different security steering wheel lock and key systems available on the market, although they all function in a similar way. The security mechanism is locked onto the cars steering wheel making it impossible to rotate and therefore steer the vehicle.

Other similar security systems are available for handbrake and gear stick making it difficult to move the vehicle and therefore deterring potential car theft.

Most security steering lock systems come with 2 or 3 keys and a unique code that should allow purchase of additional keys if required.

Vauxhall trivia

  • Vauxhall has been manufacturing cars continuously in Britain since 1903, making it the oldest car brand to survive in the UK.
  • Vauxhall's first-ever car had a whopping five-horsepower and didn't have a steering wheel! Instead, it used a tiller for guiding direction, along with two forward gears. Who even needs a reverse gear?
  • Alexander Wilson founded Vauxhall back in 1857 as a pump and marine engine manufacturer. It then moved onto building cranes before starting to finally make cars in 1903.
  • The Vauxhall Vectra was the last car they ever produced in Luton, and it went on to become one of their most poorly reviewed vehicles. Top Gear even put the '95 Vectra on their list of the worst cars of the last 20 years (Clarkson wouldn't even drive it!).
  • A long list of celebs have been proud owners of the Vauxhall Corsa, including former Doctor Who star, Matt Smith (who sold his on eBay and gave the money to charity), Tinie Tempah, Claudia Schiffer, Sean Bean, and even Colin McRae.
