About Number Plate Lights
The Vauxhall number plate light is located on the back of the vehicle above the number plate/registration plate, and serves to illuminate the number plate in the dark. Ensuring that your number plate is visible at all times is a legal requirement and allows police to use the details of the number plate to complete any necessary checks on the vehicle, so it’s important that the number plate is kept clean and in good order.
It’s worth noting that in poor visibility, other travelling vehicles may only be able to see your vehicle is there by noticing your illuminated number plate, so care should be taken to ensure that the Vauxhall number plate light is free from dirt and grime so that it can illuminate the rear number plate sufficiently, and the correct bulb should be fitted and working.
Your first indication that a Vauxhall number plate light has failed could be the light failing to light in the evening. This is usually rectified by changing the bulb, but if this does not correct the problem it could indicate a problem with the wiring supplying power to the light, and should be fixed as soon as possible.
Vauxhall trivia
- If you thought you were seeing mostly grey Vauxhalls on the road, your eyes aren't going funny. It's the most popular colour for Vauxhall cars.
- Not only did Vauxhall produce the first sports car in the world, but it was also the first company to produce a car that could go 100mph!
- The Vauxhall Vectra was the last car they ever produced in Luton, and it went on to become one of their most poorly reviewed vehicles. Top Gear even put the '95 Vectra on their list of the worst cars of the last 20 years (Clarkson wouldn't even drive it!).
- Alexander Wilson founded Vauxhall back in 1857 as a pump and marine engine manufacturer. It then moved onto building cranes before starting to finally make cars in 1903.
- WWII got in the way of making cars, as Vauxhall started building the famous Churchill tank instead. It was designed and started rolling out of the factory in less than a year, and they made over 5,600 of them!
