About Headlamp Switchs

The Saab headlamp switch operates the headlights in a vehicle. It is located on the dashboard and when operated manually by the driver has the option of operating different lights depending on the driving conditions. For example, the fog light option could be used when driving in fog. Often, the Saab headlamp switch also has an option to decide the intensity of the light beam used when driving.

Some vehicles have automatic headlight operation which means that the on board computer decides if lights should be activated depending on the lighting conditions whilst driving. Some vehicles with this option also have a switch to enable the driver to turn the lights out if not needed.

If headlights are failing to light, the first thing to check is the headlight fuses. It may be however that the issue is with a bulb in which case this should be replaced. Saab headlamp switch failures are not uncommon due to the repeated use of this part when driving. Some vehicles will indicate their failure by using a warning light on the dashboard or a warning noise. If a switch fails it should be replaced so lights can be used as normal.

Saab trivia

  • The Saab 92 was the first production car to put the petrol tank in between the rear wheels. They did this to improve driver safety, and it helped with balance too.
  • The world's first soft-top hybrid car was the Saab BioPower Hybrid Concept, and it premiered at the 2006 Stockholm Motor Show. The car ran off a combination of pure ethanol and electricity, and so is also the first hybrid to be 100% free of carbon emissions.
  • After the death of James Bond creator and writer Ian Fleming, the writer James Gardner took over writing duties for the super spy. He immediately had Bond driving a Saab 900 Turbo, and Saab even built a replica of the 'Silver Beast' which can still be seen in the Saab Car Museum.
  • The Saab concept car, the EV-1, was unveiled in 1985 and had a few cool features. One was the addition of solar cells to the roof (to power a ventilation fan) and self-repairing bumpers.
  • What does the word 'Saab' even mean? It's actually an acronym for Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget, Swedish Aircraft Company Limited. Saab is much easier to say.
