About Air Con Radiators

The car's air conditioning system conditions the air, which means whilst cooling the air in the car down, it also helps to ensure there isn't too much moisture in the car, so it stops the air getting too humid.  The car's air conditioning unit also cleans the air in the car by filtering the dust and other particles from the air inside the car.

The Citroen aircon rads, also referred to as a Citroen aircon condenser or Citroen aircon radiator, is fixed in front of the engine's radiator, looking a lot like a smaller version of the radiator.

Hot gas or vapour is pumped from the Citroen aircon compressor into the Citroen aircon rads where it is cooled and turned back into a really cold liquid which is pumped into the aircon evaporator and flows into the car as cold air. This whole process is then repeated over and again.

Situated in front of the engine's radiator, the Citroen aircon rads are an easy target for corrosion. A common reason for loss of refrigerant gas in your air conditioning system is the failure of the air conditioning radiator. If there is insufficient cold air, it could be clogged aircon rads. This may mean you need to get a new/replacement part and should seek advice from your mechanic.

Citroen trivia

  • If you went into a Citroën showroom in the 20s, there's a good chance that you would have been given a letter that was personally handwritten by Andre Citroën himself, proclaiming the benefits of the car models. This one act of marketing genius is credited with being responsible for thousands of closed sales.
  • Between 1925 and 1935, the Eiffel Tower was just a big, pointy billboard with the word 'Citroën' in bright lights from top to bottom. This was the first use of lights to advertise on the tower, and Citroën renewed the adverts every year until they were bought out by Michelin.
  • At a recent count, Citroën cars have appeared in just under 1,800 films, with the most famous being the Citroën used in the James Bond film, For Your Eyes Only. That film even had a tie-in car, a special edition Citroën that was emblazoned with the 007 logo and optional bullet hole stickers for the windows.
  • Thanks to Citroën, the French driver Sebastien Loeb is the single most successful driver in the entire history of the World Rallying Championship. Nine consecutive driver's titles were won by Loeb in the time between 2004 and 2012, driving cars such as the Xsara, the C4, and the DS3.
  • Unfortunately, the founder of Citroën went bankrupt in 1934, even though the cars they produced were selling well and incredibly popular. The company exists today because tyre company Michelin bought the majority of shares in the company.
