Convertible roof problems

Problem: On the Saab 900 convertible there is a known problem with the roof hesitating when going up or down. This is caused by a problem with the motor. The motor bracket twists and binds when operating, leading to eventual failure of the motor. Solution: You will need to purchase a replacement motor to fix the problem, but not only will you need a new motor, you will need to fit a cross member (metal bar) over the motor arm to avoid it twisting in future. This will stop the new motor from getting damaged.

Water leaking into front left footwell

Problem: Have you noticed that the carpets in the front left footwell are damp or wet? If so, this is most likely caused by leaking heater control valves. Solution: You will need to replace the heater control valves to fix the problem. We can help you find replacement valves at very low prices. You will also need to dry out the carpets to avoid dampness setting in.

LED display failure

Problem: The LED display on the 900 is known for failing, causing the display to fragment. Solution: If your display has started fragmenting you need to replace the entire display unit to resolve the issue.

Suspension bushes or shock absorbers failing

Problem: If you have noticed the suspension is too springy, it could either be caused by faulty suspension bushes, or faulty shock absorbers. Solution: A good way to check it is the bushes is to place your hand on top of the rubber mounting at the top of the front wing and press heavily on this area. If you feel side movement it is most likely the bushes that have failed. You will need to replace the bushes to fix this problem. Check that the shock absorbers are not leaking, but if they are, they will need to be replaced. The video below shows how to replace the bushes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5504ht5NHZ4
