Toyota Supra Overview
The Toyota Supra is classed as a grand tourer sports car and was produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturers Toyota Motor Company. This car was in production from 1978-2002 and this car was originally based on the Toyota Celica, but a larger version. It used to be called the Celica Supra but the Celica name was dropped and the car had its own design from Mark III onwards. This car has been a well known sports car, appearing in many video games and movies. The Supra definitely has its own unique styling and is a high performance powerful sports car. They are very greedy on fuel but are great fun to drive. They grip onto the road really well and have a great presence. Doers this sound anything like your experience of the Supra?
Toyota Supra History
The Mark I (1978-81) was known as the Toyota Celica Supra, as it was based on the Celica but with a larger front end to accommodate the bigger engine. This car was originally available with the 2.0L engine but in 1980 the more powerful 2.8L engine was made available.
The Mark II (1982-86) had a completely new design, although it was still based on the Celica platform. It had a new front end which included pop up headlights. This new design increased the overall size of the vehicle. Each year there were slight changes made to this car, before the Mark III was introduced.
The Mark III (1986-92) was the first Supra version not to be based on the Celica, and the Celica name was now dropped for this vehicle, leaving the Toyota Supra name instead. This car was pretty similar to its predecessor but had a lot of new technology such as ABS.
The Mark IV (1992-2002) had a new design, with a more rounded body design and some new engines available. This was a lot lighter than predecessors with the use of aluminum on some of the parts. The Supra ceased production in 2002.
