The new Audi RS7 pilot driving concept car has completed a lap at the Hockenheim racing circuit at top speeds of up to 150mph. All this without a driver! You can watch the RS7 piloted driving concept in action on the Hockenheim circuit in the video below. The concept car managed to complete the lap in just over 2 minutes and was taking the racing line as any experienced racing driver would do. The driverless system works by using GPS satellite navigation and the GPS is transmitted via WIFI and high frequency radio. There is also 3D cameras attached to the car which allow it to film the track and a computer program compares the camera data to a data set on board. This is what allows the car to manoeuvre around the track and choose the perfect racing line, taking them at high speeds. This is what an Audi spokesman had to say about it: “The top performance by the Audi RS 7 today substantiates the skills of our development team with regard to piloted driving at Audi. The derivations from series production, particularly in terms of precision and performance, are of great value for our further development steps.” This latest technology will hopefully one day soon be available in production cars but until then, we have some really good automatic avoidance functions available on the latest Audi models. Some of these functions include: Audi side assist, Audi active lane assist, adaptive cruise control and Stop&Go which includes Audi pre sense front. What do you think of the RS7 self driving car? Are you looking forward to this technology being implemented into productions vehicles in future? Share your thoughts in our comments box below.
