About CV Joint Outers

The Vauxhall outer CV joint is a crucial part of a cars driving function and is responsible for transferring torque from the transmission to the wheels at a constant speed. Failure of a CV joint can result in severe problems for your vehicle and should be repaired as soon as possible.

The failure of a Vauxhall outer CV joint is most likely due to dirt and water getting in to the joint from a broken or split CV boot. Driverside CV joint damage is more common than passenger side joint damage due to the heat that is emitted on that side of the vehicle. This heat can dry and crack the rubberised CV boot and thin down the lubricant which is inside the joint protecting the Vauxhall outer CV joint causing evaporation and leakage. This means that the sensitive parts of the CV joint will rub against each other, causing wear and tear. Outer CV joints break more often than inners as they endure more movement.

More often than not, the damage to a Vauxhall outer CV joint is demonstrated by a clicking or popping noise when turning.

Vauxhall trivia

  • Not only did Vauxhall produce the first sports car in the world, but it was also the first company to produce a car that could go 100mph!
  • Alexander Wilson founded Vauxhall back in 1857 as a pump and marine engine manufacturer. It then moved onto building cranes before starting to finally make cars in 1903.
  • It's the Corsa that is, by far, the most popular make produced by Vauxhall. Even as late as 2019, there were twice as many Corsa sales as there were of any other type of car.
  • WWII got in the way of making cars, as Vauxhall started building the famous Churchill tank instead. It was designed and started rolling out of the factory in less than a year, and they made over 5,600 of them!
  • If you're looking for a real bargain, you can't go wrong with the Vauxhall Viva. This small hatchback is the cheapest model that Vauxhall makes!
