About Steering Columns
One of the most important components in the steering system of any motor vehicle is the Hyundaisteering column. The primary function of a car’s Hyundaisteering column is to connect the steering wheel to the steering mechanism. This enables the steering system to translate the rotating movement of the steering wheel, as the driver steers the car, to the transverse movement of the vehicle’s wheels.
Although the operation of the steering system is the principle role of the Hyundaisteering column it also has secondary functions, which include housing the Hyundaisteering column electrical wiring, which is responsible for the operation of many of the vehicle’s accessories. The Hyundaisteering column also hosts a variety of column switches, including those that are used to operate the windscreen wipers, the headlights, the horn, the direction indicators, the screen washers and, in higher range vehicles, the audio system, cruise control system and onboard computer.
Most modern vehicles also have a steering lock, which is housed within the Hyundaisteering column and many vehicle models also have the facility to raise and lower the steering wheel, via a mechanism within the Hyundaisteering column, to suit the height of individual drivers. Finally, certain steering columns, especially on older vehicles, also hold the gear shift control lever.
The Hyundaisteering column is therefore a component with a variety of important functions.
Hyundai trivia
- The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is the first mass-produced car with a solar panel roof.
- The first Hyundai with front-wheel-drive was the Excel. Despite the weak sales, it remains an important car because it was designed by the man behind the world-famous time-traveling car, the DeLorean.
- Every time that a new Hyundai is sold, the company donates a portion of the profit to charities fighting pediatric cancer. The Hope on Wheels campaign has also been used to help disaster zone recovery, and since its launch in 1998 has raised over £160million.
- The ‘H’ logo might mean more than you think. It doesn’t just stand for Hyundai! Instead, it is meant to represent a car salesman sealing a car deal with a customer by shaking hands. If you look closely, the ‘H’ is slightly slanted to show that the customer comes first.
- Hyundai has a major advantage over other car manufacturers who have to import the steel that they use. Instead, Hyundai can cut production costs because they roll their own steel in South Korea.
