About ABS Pumps

An integral part of the ABS system, the Hyundai ABS pump is part of the hydraulic unit and works with the ABS Control Unit ECU and ABS modulator to regulate your car's braking system.

Fundamentally, the Hyundai ABS pump is part of a vital process which ensures you are able to maintain control of steering, enabling you to brake safely and smoothly by regulating the air pressure in the wheel brakes. The Hyundai pump plays its part in this process by pumping the pressure released from the brakes back up. When a wheel is likely to lock and skid, air pressure is adjusted in the brake chamber to stop this from happening and the Hyundai ABS pump ensures this pressure is pumped back up again.

As with all parts over time, your Hyundai ABS pump will end up wearing out. It is common for the pump motor to burn out with continued use and you will need to fit a new pump. If your Hyundai ABS pump isn't working, the ABS warning light will show on the dashboard. The ABS system will automatically stop working if there is a fault with your Hyundai ABS pump. Though you will be able to continue to use your brakes, you will not be assisted by ABS.

Hyundai trivia

  • The first Hyundai with front-wheel-drive was the Excel. Despite the weak sales, it remains an important car because it was designed by the man behind the world-famous time-traveling car, the DeLorean.
  • The Hyundai testing centre is world-class. Based in the Mojave Desert, the area (known as the Proving Ground) is an abandoned airbase. With 4,300 acres of land, cars can be tested so harshly that there are still remains of vehicles scattered around the zone.
  • The ‘H’ logo might mean more than you think. It doesn’t just stand for Hyundai! Instead, it is meant to represent a car salesman sealing a car deal with a customer by shaking hands. If you look closely, the ‘H’ is slightly slanted to show that the customer comes first.
  • It wasn’t until 1996 that Hyundai unveiled their first sports car, the Hyundai Coupe (called the Tiburon in the US and Australia). It gained a huge burst of popularity after being featured in the video game Need for Speed.
  • The Matt Damon film, The Bourne Supremacy, has the action hero not just driving a Hyundai EF Sonata, but also pointing out another. This is despite the fact that Hyundai hadn’t entered into any product placement deals with the filmmakers. The EF Sonata can also be seen in 2005’s War of the Worlds, 2008’s The Hurt Locker, and the 2010 thriller Inception.
