About Battery

The Batteries typically used in vehicles powered by combustion engines are known as SLI type. This abbreviation stands for Starting, Lighting, Ignition.

The Battery is usually of a lead-acid type. The Passat Volkswagen battery provides the high power required for the starter motor and also the power for all the electrical systems for a certain period when the engine is not running. When the engine is started and is running the alternator takes over the electrical supply and the battery is recharged.

The battery in most cars with front engines is situated under the bonnet in the engine compartment. On some vehicles the battery is located under the rear passenger seats or sometimes in the boot compartment.

The Passat Volkswagen battery has a relatively uncertain life span. Signs that it needs replacing can be that the starter motor is struggling and not turning at a normal speed. Causes for damage to a battery can be a failing alternator which is causing a failure in fully charging and the battery is being used constantly in the running of the engine and the electrical systems. Allowing the electrolyte fluid levels to drop too low in the cells also damages the battery. Loose connections also cause damage. Leaving lighting and electrical systems running without the engine operating can cause a deep discharge in the battery which can also damage it.

Volkswagen Passat trivia

  • The Volkswagen Passat is a very popular fleet car, and it is estimated that as much as 80% of all Passat sales are going to be used as part of a fleet.
  • The Volkswagen Passat was launched in October 2014, and since that date, there have been 22 million units sold. Of those, 442,000 Passats have been sold in the UK.
  • Volkswagen is usually pretty slick with their marketing, but the car company misunderstood the mockumentary. This is Spinal Tap. They thought they were tapping into the mainstream rock world when they hired Spinal Tap star Christopher Guest to stand on top of a Passat and play the guitar. The ad became something of a joke and a blemish on VW’s public perception.
  • In 2008, the Volkswagen Passat estate won the Towcar of the Year Awards, with the magazine Practical Caravans praising its Trailer Stability Programme.
  • When the marketing for the 2014 Volkswagen Passat was launched, the company even explained exactly who the car was aimed at: a 43-year-old man, married with two children, working as a key account manager and someone who will work out their taxes before they buy a car. Talk about specific!
