About Heat Shield

The engine, throught he process of internal combustion, generates very high temperatures. For this reason heat shields are fitted to help reduce the temperature in the exhaust system to prevent overheating.

The Astra Vauxhall heat shield is a metal, circular, fixed plate which helps to shield vital exhaust system and other engine components from the intense heat that's generated by the hot gases that are travelling through the system, to help prevent damage to vital components. The specific metal used varies but most common is sheet metal or rolled aluminium. Heat shields are positioned along the exhaust and in the engine compartment along the firewall.

The heat shield either absorbs, deflects or spreads the heat to reduce the temperature of the exhaust gas.

Problems arising with the heat shields can be from corrosion or the shields having become misshapen through contact with stones or debris from the road. Replacing this part with the Astra Vauxhall heat shield will ensure perfect compatibility with the make and model of your vehicle.

Vauxhall Astra trivia

  • In South Africa, drivers could buy the MK3 Astra, which came with a turbo-charged C20LET engine. The car was sold as the 200ts, and only one has ever been seen in the UK. Luckily, the C20LET supercharged engine was also used in the Calibra and Cavalier Turbo, so Brits could still experience the thrill.
  • The Astra MK6 was very popular with the police, and 54 different constabularies used the MK6.
  • The Bedford Astravan is the van version of the classic Vauxhall Astra!
  • The MK5 is the single most successful Astra in terms of sales, and it was the second best selling car in Britain in 2005, 2006, and 2007.
  • The white version of the Vauxhall Astra 1800 GTE was the first car in the UK to be colour-coded. The body trim matched the white base colour and included the skirts and the wheel arch extensions. Ford was so happy with the look that the silver, black, and red models also started to include colour-coding.
