About Propshaft

The Antara Vauxhall propshaft is a key part of an automatic vehicle’s transmission and is attached to the gearbox using a propshaft coupling. This coupling is usually a two-piece rubber doughnut shaped gaiter with metal bushings inside that connects the propshaft. The Antara Vauxhall propshaft can be attached to the gearbox using a variety of different fixings such as nuts and bolts or cap screws. The ends of the Antara Vauxhall propshaft can either be parallel or tapered - this will influence which fixing is used.

Antara Vauxhall propshaft failures can happen for a variety of reasons but most common is general wear to the propshaft coupling especially in rubber couplings. If the propshaft coupling becomes damaged it will cause excess play in the Antara Vauxhall propshaft. This play can twist the pipe.

Other causes for damage to the Antara Vauxhall propshaft could be road hazards denting the tube of the Antara Vauxhall propshaft. It’s also possible for the Antara Vauxhall propshaft to shear in half if it has been rubbing against another part of the vehicle possibly through incorrect installation of the Antara Vauxhall propshaft or nearby parts.

Vauxhall trivia

  • If you thought you were seeing mostly grey Vauxhalls on the road, your eyes aren't going funny. It's the most popular colour for Vauxhall cars.
  • WWII got in the way of making cars, as Vauxhall started building the famous Churchill tank instead. It was designed and started rolling out of the factory in less than a year, and they made over 5,600 of them!
  • If you're looking for a real bargain, you can't go wrong with the Vauxhall Viva. This small hatchback is the cheapest model that Vauxhall makes!
  • Vauxhall has been manufacturing cars continuously in Britain since 1903, making it the oldest car brand to survive in the UK.
  • The Vauxhall Vectra was the last car they ever produced in Luton, and it went on to become one of their most poorly reviewed vehicles. Top Gear even put the '95 Vectra on their list of the worst cars of the last 20 years (Clarkson wouldn't even drive it!).
