About Actuator

The Mondeo Ford actuator is a motor which is part of an automatic transmission system and its job is to push the clutch release arm, removing drive from the engine to the gearbox. In a manual vehicle this role would usually be performed by the driver pressing their foot down on the clutch pedal.

The Mondeo Ford actuator is self-adjusting which means that when the clutch cover and pressure plate wear down the Mondeo Ford actuator is capable of compensating for their wear. This adjusting mechanism is sensitive and, once an actuator is removed it will be destroyed, so if the Mondeo Ford actuator shows signs of failure it is not possible to repair it and it should be removed. When the Mondeo Ford actuator is replaced it is essential to also replace the clutch cover, plate and bearing alongside it to ensure correct operation.

Symptoms of a Mondeo Ford actuator being faulty can include frequent stalling, an inability to engage drive from start-up and depending on the make and model of the vehicle, or a warning light appearing on the dashboard alerting you to a fault. On inspection of the Mondeo Ford actuator you may find that it appears hot, which can indicate a jammed part.

Ford Mondeo trivia

  • The Ford Mondeo did not do well in the US, despite some mad promotions (including a drive from London to New York via the Bering Strait). Perhaps it was the fact that the Mondeo was renamed the Contour in the States? In Europe, however, drivers were queuing up outside showrooms to get their hands on one.
  • The UK government website, yougov.co.uk, claims that the Ford Mondeo is the 44th most popular car in the UK and the 12th most famous. The site also claims that the car is most popular with millennials and baby boomers and that more males prefer the Mondeo than females.
  • The Mark III Mondeo, launched in 2000, quickly gained a name as one of the best cars in the UK. It won the WhatCar? award and Top Gear Car of the Year, and was praised for its safety features, the high-quality interiors, and its exceptional handling.
  • The fourth-generation Ford Mondeo was released in 2007 with several improvements. The newer model was more fuel-efficient and came with options for a hatchback model or an estate version.
  • There was a point where the Mondeo was the most popular company car in the UK. However, it eventually lost that title to the BMW 3-Series.
