About Speed Sensor

Many modern vehicles have a 9-5 Saab speed sensor. This sophisticated component is used to detect the speed of the vehicle and pass this information on to a variety of other components such as the anti-lock braking system, the cruise control system and the variable assist power steering system.

The majority of newer vehicles with a 9-5 Saab speed sensor will have a model that operates through a permanent magnet. The 9-5 Saab speed sensor will be mounted either in the vehicle’s rear differential assembly or in the transmission case. If the 9-5 Saab speed sensor is mounted in the transmission case it is most likely that it will be gear driven whilst a 9-5 Saab speed sensor mounted in the rear differential operates by means of a trigger wheel that is mounted with the ring gear.  Regardless of the location of the 9-5 Saab speed sensor mounting, the same information is collated and distributed electronically to other parts of the vehicle.

Because there are several tasks to which the 9-5 Saab speed sensor is integral, a faulty sensor might reveal itself in a variety of ways. If the cruise control stops working, the speedometer ceases to operate or the anti lock braking system begins to behave erratically, the source of the problem may well be a faulty 9-5 Saab speed sensor.

If this is the case it is essential to replace the faulty sensor to ensure that the functioning of all of those dependent components is restored.

Saab trivia

  • There was lots of controversy over the Saab 93 in Sweden. Not so much the car itself, but the marketing for the vehicle clearly showed a young couple in bed together, but the woman wasn't wearing a wedding ring. Complaints poured in from shocked Swedes, and Saab hastily added a wedding ring.
  • If you were buying yourself a Saab before 1952, you had the colour choices of green, green, and… green. It wasn't until 1952 that Saab started offering other colours for car buyers.
  • The Monte Carlo Rally is always a big deal, but the first Saab to win the event was in 1929, with a Swedish-born woman behind the wheel. Greta Molander went to take the Ladies Cup in a Saab in 1952.
  • The Saab 92 was the first production car to put the petrol tank in between the rear wheels. They did this to improve driver safety, and it helped with balance too.
  • The world's first soft-top hybrid car was the Saab BioPower Hybrid Concept, and it premiered at the 2006 Stockholm Motor Show. The car ran off a combination of pure ethanol and electricity, and so is also the first hybrid to be 100% free of carbon emissions.
