About Heater Valve

The 7 Series BMW heater valve is a very important part of a vehicle’s heater system. It’s usually located behind the vehicle dashboard. It works independently of the rest of the cooling system and controls the amount of coolant that is flowing through the heater core. The coolant that flows to the heater core travels through the heater hoses. These hoses connect the engine to the heater core. There are however, some vehicles which don’t use a 7 Series BMW heater valve. In this case, the coolant will flow freely from the engine to the heater core via the heater hoses.

The 7 Series BMW heater valve can be a manual valve, a vacuum valve or electrical.

The 7 Series BMW heater valve can have problems with not opening and closing as it should. This could be caused by it sticking. In this case, some WD40 or other lubricant may help. If it doesn’t however it may need to be replaced. If your heating system isn’t working and is bled properly, it may be an issue with the 7 Series BMW heater valve. Alternatively, if the vehicle’s heating is always on it may be an issue with the 7 Series BMW heater valve being seized open.

BMW trivia

  • Think you know what BMW is an acronym of? If you answered Broke My Wallet, you’re definitely wrong. It really stands for Bayerische Motoren Werke (which is Bavarian Motor Works in English).
  • Did you know that BMW built a Lamborghini? The two popular companies decided to make a race car together, but Lamborghini pulled out during the manufacturing process. BMW carried on, and the final result was the original BMW M1 supercar.
  • The famous German pilot, the Red Baron, called BMW engines the 'greatest in the world' and ‘the best engine in the war’.
  • The main headquarters for BMW in Munich is designed and shaped to look like car parts. There was a whole new 'four-cylinder' building added on in 1973, and there's definitely the look of an engine about the architecture.
  • The very first BMW was named the 'Dixi'. They hadn't designed it (it was really an English Austin), and they dropped the name 'Dixi' very quickly, instead opting for the rather more grandiose BMW 3/15 DA-2. Rolls off the tongue!
