About ECU Transmission Control Unit
The 9-3 Saab ECU transmission control unit is an on-board computer which electronically controls the transmission of the vehicle. TCUs can be separate from, or in this case, attached to the ECU. The 9-3 Saab ECU Transmission Control unit contacts sensors that are placed around the vehicle to receive data in order to accurately calculate when to change gears and which gear to use as well as improve fuel economy and drive quality.
These sensors include the vehicle speed sensor, the wheel speed sensor, the throttle position sensor, the turbine speed sensor and the transmission fluid sensor. The TCU also uses data sent from the ECU. This controls and maintains the efficient running of the engine as well as scanning for any abnormalities in its function.
If a 9-3 Saab ECU transmission control unit begins to fail, you may notice a loss of power, error message or difficulty in changing gears. This problem can be intermittent at first, and can sometimes be rectified temporarily by turning off your car and turning it back on again after a short while. Ultimately though, any damage to a 9-3 Saab ECU transmission control unit will need to be repaired to correct the fault.
Saab trivia
- The Saab 900 was built between 1978 and 1993 and is the best selling Saab ever. In that time, it sold a total of 980,817 cars, around half of which were the convertible model. They can still be seen on UK roads very regularly.
- Saab was the first car manufacturer to install heated driver's seats. That's because one of the Saab executives suffered from a bad back that was particularly painful on cold mornings.
- What does the word 'Saab' even mean? It's actually an acronym for Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget, Swedish Aircraft Company Limited. Saab is much easier to say.
- The Saab car badge is a very stylized version of the wing from an aeroplane.
- The Saab 92 was the first production car to put the petrol tank in between the rear wheels. They did this to improve driver safety, and it helped with balance too.
